Biography

Michael Stocks commenced violin at the age of five. He toured as a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra for three seasons, and performed in the world premiere concert version of “Les Miserables”.

In 1996 Michael released a solo violin CD, “That Was Then… This is Now…” and in 2003 released “A Touch of Tasmania” with singers John de John and Di Briffa. He has published over 70 books for stringed instruments, string orchestra, piano and music theory under his publishing company, Dynamic Publishing.

Michael returned to his home state of Tasmania in 2012, after spending 9 years in Sydney, where he was the Director of Strings at the Emanuel School as well as President of the NSW String Teachers Association.

Michael now teaches violin, viola, double bass and music theory from his Launceston studio. He conducts the St. Cecilia Chamber Orchestra and has been concertmaster of the Launceston Philharmonic Orchestra since its formation in 2013.
